levelnine "Moss" Reviewed by ellen b. The band consists of Chris Charlton on vocals, Marc Sherlock on drums, Stephen Streit on bass, and Chris Mcghee on guitar. Levelnine, without a doubt, is on my top three favorite Cincinnati bands list. People say that Levelnine sounds like Tool, but I really don't see much of a resemblance. Although I can see that Levelnine could be inspired by Tool. Levelnine has their own sound. It feels tribal, with Sherlock's drumming and poetic with Charlton's stunning real lyrics. Mcghee and Streit both work well playing back and forth from guitar to bass with pedals for special effects. I noticed when they perform, they look intense and emotional like they put themselves in another world. It seems to me that they put a lot of effort in the music they produce. Thumbs up for Moss! They are also coming out with another album pretty soon, so watch out for it. Bloodline 4:20 "...A New Beginning" Reviewed by Chris Lee -BLOODLINE 4:20's- 8-song debut comesat the listener thrash heavy with a SEPULTURA/SLAYER influence. Add a little 80s era METALLICA and you get an idea of where these guys come from. A good debut that makes me want to hear a followup and if you get a chance, catch them live whenever possible. Thorns of the Carrion "Eve Songs" Reviewed by Chris Lee THORNS OF THE CARRION's follow up to their classic doomalbum "The Scarlet Tapestry" does not disappoint. The band brings doom metal, dark metal, thrash metal, classic metal, and death metal together to producea masterpiece of an album. There is no justice when a band like this remainsunsigned yet bands like PRIMER 55, P.O.D., and STATIC-X get picked up, put onbig tours and shoved down heavy America's throats. More intense than every band on this year's Ozzfest and this year's Tattoo the Earth fest (Except, of course for the mighty SLAYER), "Eve Songs" which contains five songs clocking in at just over 34 minutes, is a CD that every fan of any of the above mentioned genres of metal should own. My suggestion is to pick up a copy of now because the word is already spreading like wildfire in the underground. Contact Address: P.O. Drop Shadow "Blue" Reviewed by Chris Lee DROP SHADOW are a band that combine industrial, alternative, and hardcore to create an intense sound that demands to be heard. The band create their own unique sound with the closest comparison I can think of being a mix between STABBING WESTWARD and the DEFTONES. Some of it even reminds me of early 90s metal band ANACRUSIS. Simply put, this 9-track CD smokes. Heavy enough to satisfy the hardcore crowd and catchy enough to satisfy any hard rock radio DJ, DROP SHADOW deliver a hard hitting debut that is sure to attract national attention (the band's live show already has). From the opening track, 'Needles' all the way through to the final slam 'Something New', this disc keeps the listener attentive and when it is over the urge is to want to hear more by the band or just listen to the CD a second time through. I highly recommend this CD and put it as one of my top releases of 2000. Contact the band at: P.O. Box 42311 Cincinnati, OH45242 Check out their website at:www.drop-shadow.com E-mail the band at dropshadow@email.com |
